Ubuntu and Raspberry Pi 4 4GB 64-bit: a first functional core available

After a month of waiting, Ubuntu developers are finally starting to release a patch for the 4GB version of the Raspberry Pi 4, which could not exploit all of its memory and USB ports at the same time. A new ready-to-use image is in preparation, a first build that can be downloaded.

At the end of October, on the occasion of the release of Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine), we discovered a first version of the distribution devoted to Rasbpberry Pi 4. Rather powerful, it nevertheless suffered from two defects.

The first is its installation procedure still perfectible, especially vis-à-vis the time required for the first start. When we compare Manjaro's work on the subject, it's day and night. The other point was the 64-bit support, impossible with a card equipped with 4 GB, which is still quite ironic.


Indeed, when using this variation of Raspberry Pi 4 with Ubuntu 19.10, the USB ports are no longer functional. This is not necessarily a drama for remote use via SSH. This is another story if you want to use the system locally or with an external hard drive for example.
